LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA: As more than 1,200 attendees, including 700 doctors and 250 auxiliaries, laboratory technicians, students and industry personnel, streamed through the halls of the Bellagio Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip for the ICOI Spring Symposium, it was clear there was a different kind of party going on up in here.

While ICOI Spring Symposium attendees could enjoy the warm sunshine and the entertaining attractions that only Las Vegas can offer, perhaps even more compelling for these individuals was the kind of learning and education that took place as part of the scientific sessions.

This year’s Spring Symposium included an in-depth, challenging focus on “The Maxilla: Single Tooth to Full Arch Reconstruction” while maintaining the collegial and scientific environment the ICOI is known for.

Main podium lectures included “Extraction Site Management” by speakers Dr. Jaime Lozada, Dr. Giuseppe Cardaropoli, Dr. Joseph Kan and Dr. Michael Sonick.

About 100 companies exhibitied products. For implant doctors or team members who came looking to stock up on supplies or to look for new products to bring home to the office, the exhibit hall was brimming with new technology and other treats. This year’s Spring Symposium was a great place to find the latest and greatest to bring back to your patients.

Here is a sampling of the unique products that were available in the ICOI Spring Symposium exhibit hall:

  • Intra-Lok introduced L-PRF, a 3-D autogenous combination of platelet-rich fibrin derived from the patient’s blood. A simplified chairside procedure results in the production of a thin, compressed layer of platelet-rich fibrin that is strong, pliable and suitable for suturing. This natural fibrin network is rich in platelets, growth factors and cytokines that are derived from blood platelets and leukocytes. The presence of these proteins has been reported to produce rapid healing, especially during the first seven days after placement.
  • Zest Anchors offered a new LOCATOR Implant Attachment with patented pivoting technology, which the company says is the premier system for implant-retained overdentures. According to recent studies, a two-implant-retained, tissue-supported overdenture restoration is considered the new minimum standard of care for edentulous patients. More than two implants may also be placed for an implant-supported overdenture.

For those who are planning their next educational adventures, a few implant companies have events they’d like you to consider putting on your calendar:

  • MIS will offer its Global Conference 2013 from June 6 to 9 in Cannes, France. With the theme “From Science to Practice — How to Make It Simple,” the meeting offers the opportunity to catch up with new trends, learn best practices from world-class experts and enjoy a vacation under the sun of the French Riviera.
  • i-CAT will host the 7th International Congress on 3-D Dental Imaging in Boston from Oct. 24 to 26. The event will offer up to 12 C.E. credits and will feature speakers, lecture topics and demonstrations of real 3-D imaging applications in dentistry.
  • Meisinger invites you to experience an implantology training course at its fourth annual High Altitude Bone Management Winter Camp from Feb. 5 to 8, 2014, which will combine top-level implantology courses with the fun of a top-rated ski resort, this time in Beaver Creek, Colo.
